SS Jaguar 100 - The remarkable history of 18008
Chas Parker
Launched in 1935, the SS Jaguar 100 was the first true performance car to carry the Jaguar name and a landmark model in the company’s early history. Sold new to Sammy Newsome before returning to the SS Cars factory, chassis 18008 became a works development car and soon established itself in competition.
Its defining moment came on the 1936 International Alpine Trial, where Tommy and Elsie Wisdom achieved a penalty-free run. Later developed into lightweight 3.5-litre form, BWK 77 went on to compete at Brooklands, Shelsley Walsh and many other significant events, building a sporting history that continues into the modern historic racing era.
