Gordon Murray’s McLaren F1 road car was never intended to go racing, but a GTR competition variant was developed for the 1995 season. John Lawson’s spectacular cutaway, revealing the cockpit, suspension, brakes and the BMW V12 engine, was featured in the Porter Press book Ultimate McLaren F1 GTR. It depicts GTR chassis #01R, which won the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hour race in the hands of Yannick Dalmas, Masanori Sekiya and JJ Lehto.
