Born of controversy, the Ferrari 250 LM was Enzo Ferrari’s compact mid-engined coupé hope for GT world championship racing but the rule-makers decided it should run as a sports-prototype in 1964 and 1965. To everyone’s surprise, the LM was to dominate the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hour race. Chassis no. 6313, driven by Pierre Dumay and Gustave Gosselin, led for much of the race but finished second after a tyre failure in the closing stages.
