Brooklands Bulletin, July/August 2025

'...Porsche 962/88 certainly adds to the bibliography of these celebrated racing cars.' Gareth Tarr

The Race, by Andrew van de Burgt, July 2025

'The 19th instalment of Porter Press's Great Cars series takes us to the Porsche 962/88. The 19th chassis to come out of Porsche's factory - 962 011 - it was also the most successful, and the story of how a car that really ought not to have existed is retold in exhaustive detail by Serge Vanbockryck.

'There are some tremendous behind-the-scenes photos that document how they extended the longevity of an already venerable project in a way that's unthinkable now.

'This book packs an incredible amount of information, but it's presented in a way that makes it accessible and easy to dip in and out of.'

Autosport, June 2025

'...chassis 011, gets the full Porter Press' Great Cars' treatment in a sumptuous 320-page hardback. Author Serge Vanbockryck is a sportscar legend in his own right as journalist and PR man, and in this definitive tome he deftly balances storytelling with detail.'

Bespoke, by Mark Holman, Autumn 2025

'This is an excellent addition to a deservedly well-regarded series of books!'

Historic Racing News, 11th March 2025

'This new book from Porter Press ticks a lot of boxes for anyone who is a fan of the magnificent Group C era.

... 'Of the 19 works Porsches 962s built to various specifications, it was chassis 962 011 - the car featured in this book - that turned out to be the most successful. This authoritative account (the 19th in the Great Cars series) tells this very special car's entire story, embracing 46 races and nine victories during a five-year active career that saw it compete in the highest echelons of sportscar racing in Europe, America and Japan.'

Speedster, March 2025 (French to English translation)

'In more than 530 photos, between archives and studio shooting, Serge Vanbockryck recounts the 962, focusing his story on chassis #11, the latest to win an international Group C race in 1989, then developed by Weissach to remain highly competitive in MSA. The author provides exhaustive coverage of the subject, including technology, development, track records, and portraits.'

Magneto

'Serge Vanbockryck's £69, 320-page book charts the car's life from Joest/Porsche collaboration to victories on either side of the Atlantic, including the 962's last World Sportscar Championship victory in 1989. There's a mixture of beautiful modern photography and evocative archive imagery, with incisive technical insight and driver profiles.

Practical Classics

'The tale of chassis 962 011, the most successful of the 19 works 962s, is told in great detail. Beautifully presented, 46 races and nine victories are explored alongside driver profiles and more.'

Retro Speed

'Although of limited appeal it is essential that books such as this continue to be written, because, as with Chinese whispers, the further we move away from events, and the cars involved, so then does the truth become more distorted. Or in some cases, ignored
completely. Thus, the story behind Porsche 962/88, written with authority by Serge Vanbockryck, should be regarded as essential.

Nobody out publishes Porter Press. At a bargain price of just £69.00, we have 320 pages superbly constructed and balanced, with individual chapters covering each year, and a mighty 100, given over to the lucky drivers. They include Bob Wollek, Frank Jelinski, Danny Sullivan, John Winter, Henri Pescarolo and Chip Robinson. I readily admit to not having heard of John Winter, or Chip Robinson, so find this section most useful.

I give this book five stars.'
