Classic Car Curation, September 2020
'The world's first production Land Rover has been resurrected and the whole story has been carefully written for enthusiastic ‘mud-plugger' fans. The fascinating new book from Porter Press tells the unlikely story of the world's first production Land Rover, chassis number 860001, a vehicle of historic significance which was hidden away in decaying condition for almost four decades.'
'Author, Martin Port is a highly-regarded Land-Rover expert and accurately sheds light on every stage in 860001's life, a fascinating story accompanied by more than 240 photographs.'
Book of the Month, Octane
'Martin Port not only carefully researched the history of JUE 477, but also meticulously documented every phase of the restoration in text and images. Four months were spent on the chassis alone, with Shoolheifer striving to use as many original parts as possible. The result is a Land Rover that is fully crawlable again and has an unadulterated patina. A complete restoration “like new” or putting the car in a glass case as it was found was out of the question for everyone involved. The book ends with a beautifully photographed “sentimental journey” (see also the title motif). Back to Northumberland and the farm where it all began 50 years ago.'
