Sir Michael Caine: ‘The Italian Job was a great time in my life. We were all young and we had so much fun making it. [The film] is a snapshot of the sixties and perfectly encapsulated the decade: the cars, the fashion, the fun and the optimistic attitude that was in the air.’
Matthew Field is the world’s leading authority on The Italian Job. In 2009 he co-produced and directed a feature-length documentary about the film for Paramount Pictures.
His book, The Self Preservation Society - 70 Years of The Italian Job, was voted 2019 Motoring Book of the Year by the Royal Automobile Club, in a unanimous decision by the judges.
David Salamone, together with his father, sourced the vehicles for the film and ended up driving the red Mini with Caine as his passenger. He will be coming over from his home in France especially for the Festival.
