After having written about 20 motoring books, Philip Porter launched Porter Press International Ltd in 2005, commencing with a series of Scrapbooks with Stirling Moss, followed by a similar book with Murray Walker.

In 2014, Porter Press launched the Great Cars books with Mark Hughes as series editor. Featuring a number of Le Mans winners and the double Le Mans winners, some 19 have been published with two more due out in 2026.

In parallel, the Exceptional Cars series was created for important competition cars but with less history. Then came the Ultimate series - mainly two-volume, very large definitive works, including Ferrari 250 GTO, McLaren F1 GTR, Works Porsche 956, Works 962 (three volumes) and Ford GT40 (two of the four volumes published so far). The latest is Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona, with Jaguar C-type and Ferrari 275 due out in 2026.

The company is honoured to work with a plethora of top authors, editors and designers, including Doug Nye, Richard Heseltine, James Page, Keith Bluemel, Ian Wagstaff, MIck Walsh, Peter Stevens, David Tremayne, Luca Dal Monte and Matthew Field on the writing front and editors, Hughes, Page, Steve Rendle, Lianna Bruhlman and Peter Moss. 

Since 2019 Martin Port, former Art Editor of Classic & Sports Car, has been the Chief Designer and in charge of production.

In March, 2026 Mark Dixon, long-term Deputy Editor of Octane and Royal Automobile Club Book of the Year award judge, joined the company as Editorial Manager. Author Andrew Noakes has been a valued part-time, office-based colleague for several years.

The office team is based in a restored thatched barn in the grounds of  Philip and Julie Porter’s old Worcestershire farmhouse where Porter has lived for 48 years.

Julie Porter, co-founder and director, is heavily involved looking after HR, events and other important aspects of the business. Financial Director, Annelise Airey, has been with the company for 22 years and also plays a key role in operations. 

Most of the Porter Press books are printed by The Gomer Press in Wales. 

Many of the approximately 110 titles have been chosen as Book of the Month in leading magazines and won Book of the Year awards.
