On display at Revs Institute in Florida, this particular GT40, chassis 1049, was originally owned by Grady Davis, the Gulf Oil vice-president responsible for Gulf’s sponsorship of the John Wyer-managed lightweight GT40-derived prototypes that won at Le Mans in 1968 and ’69. In 1967, Davis’s road car, #1049, was race-prepped as a Gulf entry for the Daytona 24 Hour. It finished first in class and sixth overall in the hands of Jacky Ickx and Richard ‘Dick’ Thompson.
