Camel Trophy event, by Nick Dimbleby
“It was an amazing day. I have been totally blown away by the interest and strength of feeling that still remains for Camel Trophy all these years after the event finished in 2000. To have four of the six event directors present was incredible, and I am especially grateful to Andreas Bender for popping into see us from Africa on his way to Jamaica! This was the first Camel Trophy event he’s attended since 1987.
The Camel Trophy Club, Richard Mumford and the Comms team, and Bob and Joe Ives deserve extra thanks for going above and beyond to create the perfect venue for the event. It wouldn’t have happened without them, and it was a nice touch that we were standing on the actual Camel Trophy stage!
Seeing so many old friends and meeting new ones was particularly special for me, and with a replica Ford U-50 jeep and a genuine Camel Trophy RIB at either end of the line-up, the whole range of vehicles was covered. We even had the Land Rover Trophy V8 make an appearance, so it’s great to see that Camel Trophy spirit living for the next generation.”
